About Our Practice
Our History
In 1981, Dr. David Smith opened the doors of his beloved practice in Caribou. In 2017, Dr. Meagan Thompson joined Dr. Smith and they enjoyed working side by side in an endearing relationship for several years. Dr. Smith transitioned his practice to Dr. Thompson in 2019 to what is now Northern Maine Dental.
In 2021, Dr. Smith retired on his 73rd birthday, after 47 years in practice, and Caribou native and friend, Dr. Kjetil Rossignol joined the team. We relocated to our new space on the Access Highway in October of 2021 and look forward to serving you in our inviting space for years to come.
Meet Our Dentists
Dr. Meagan Thompson
Dr. Thompson, a Caribou native, graduated from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2017. Upon earning her doctorate, she was recognized by the Charles Tufts Society for returning to Northern Maine to practice dentistry, an area with a significant need for oral healthcare professionals. Prior to dental school, she earned her B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Pre-Dental Studies from the University of Maine.
She is proud to care for the community she calls home and is committed to delivering comprehensive, high-quality dentistry in a warm and family-centered environment. Dr. Thompson values the relationships she builds with her patients and is known for her approachable nature and gentle, reassuring chairside manner. Her goal is to create a positive experience for patients of all ages while helping them achieve lasting oral health.
Dr. Thompson works closely with her team to uphold the highest standards of patient-centered care and clinical excellence. She remains actively involved in the Aroostook County Dental Society and is passionate about community outreach, visiting local schools to promote oral health education and encourage healthy habits from an early age.
Dr. Thompson lives in Caribou with her husband, Jon, their children, Owen and Logan, and their big, goofy Berner, Gus.
KJETIL ROSSIGNOL, DMD
Dr. Kjetil Rossignol is a Caribou native who is excited and passionate about providing thorough and quality dental care to the people of his community. He is a graduate of the University of New England’s College of Dental Medicine’s class of 2020. After earning his doctorate, he completed a General Practice Residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he received advanced training in oral surgery, pathology, orofacial trauma and management of medically compromised patients. His greatest priority is delivering dental care of exceptional quality while eliminating the fear and anxiety associated with dental treatment, and does everything he can to try and make the appointments fun. He has been working with Dr. Thompson and the rest of the NMD team since 2021. He is proud to offer a wide range of dental treatments to his patients and minimize the need to travel to seek specialty care; root canals, extractions, implants and pediatrics are all areas of dentistry he is experienced in and confident performing.
Outside of the dental clinic, “Dr. Teal” is an avid outdoorsman and is passionate about birdwatching and bird photography (as one look at his dental operatory, or “the bird room”, will immediately reveal). His other interests include playing music, cooking, and spending time with his family.
ALEXIS COILEY, DDS
Dr. Alexis Coiley, a Fort Fairfield native, is excited be back in the County to provide dental care to the people of the community she grew up in. Dr. Coiley graduated from Dalhousie University Faculty of Dentistry in 2025, following her undergraduate studies in Biology from St. Joseph’s College of Maine. She is passionate about helping patients achieve a healthy, confident smile in a welcoming environment. Her easygoing demeanor effortlessly generates an environment where patients can feel comfortable, and her thorough knowledge keeps her patients well-informed. She is dedicated to caring for patients of all ages and finds the balance of preventive and restorative care a fun and engaging endeavor.
Outside of the dental clinic, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and walking her dog, Bella. She resides in Limestone with her significant other, Adam.
